2014-2015 Masters Team Criterium Series Wrap up

2014 saw Cycling South Australia launch a Masters Teams Criterium series for the first time, to run in conjunction with the Bowden Elite Teams series. Envirosport Skin and Muscle Care and Mike Turtur Cycles entered a 7 rider team in the series. With a number of training rides under their belts “perfecting the lead out train”, the first round was on a great circuit around the wool stores of historic Port Adelaide.

The team’s lead sprinter, Aaron Pollard lead from the front and finished in the top twenty bunch. The pace in this opening round set the tone for the rest of the series with speeds in the 50+kph range for the opening and finishing laps and an average in the low 40kph’s, not bad for a masters race with lots of corners.

The remaining five rounds took place at South Australia’s home of criterium racing, Victoria Park. Round two was on the long course before reverting to the short course when the Clipsal constructions annexed the main straight. The Envirosport/MikeTurturCycles team was without its number one sprinter Aaron Pollard from round 2, he managed to break his ankle on the stairs at work. Then Daniel Tregenza, Glen Fear, Andrew Miller, Marcus Hofer, and Bryan McIntyre took up the challenge and rode competitively for the remainder of the series with David Tichy making up the numbers in round three. Round 4 put the team on the board with Bryan McIntyre taking a strong third place in the over 50+ division, putting a smile on the faces of his team mates in the process.

Having learned a lot in this first series for Masters, the team will be back stronger and better come December 2015 and Aaron has promised to not break his ankle next time round.
