Team Envirosport/Mike Turtur Cycles take a second win in Round 5

Sunday’s Round 5 proved to be decisive for the Envirosport/Mike Turtur Cycles team with Gareth Davies taking his second win of the series to prove he is a force to be reckoned with. The race at Victoria Park was on from the gun with all teams trying to keep the pace very high to thin out the field, but this strategy didn’t bear fruit with only 5 riders dropped during the race.

Various teams attempted breakaways during the initial 30 minutes, but none stuck. At the bell lap the bunch was all together and the sprinters were making their way to the front. Gareth Davies worked his way through the field and hit the lead on the final corner into the finishing straight opening his sprint. Jason de Ross of the Power On team was on his wheel and attempted to come around on the left side out of the wind, but his efforts were to no available. For the last 15 metres a gap of only 30cm held steady until the line with Davies able to hold off the challenge and take the win to wild cheering from the crowd. Great racing and the most competitive and exciting category of the super series.
